An Exclusive B.Y.E. Song Leak

*Mention of Suicide* | "There is light at the end of the tunnel"

I received an email recently from someone who, as I later discovered, happened to be a Quebec local musician. They found our info through our threads account, and told us that they had a song coming out soon that he would like for us to feature in some kind of way once the release date approaches.

“What’s the name of the song, and when’s the drop date?”
I said.

“December 16”
They responded, attaching a link to the song’s BandCamp page.

My friend expressed some eagerness about the song being released. As I got the full story, I understood the level of care that was needed with helping him get the word out. As you’ll soon read and understand yourself, the song is personal. The voice behind those lyrics has trauma attached to them and the date this song is married to.

So, in a somewhat symbolic effort to try and tell Antoine here that our past experiences don’t define us, I decided to “leak” the song exclusively to B.Y.E. members.

Do me, and mostly Antoine, the favour of giving the song a listen followed by your feedback. Also, consider making him feel heard by sharing some words of love and support. <3

The Story of December 16th

“The lyrics are about December 16, 2022 where my partner left me for the biggest party in town, and that moment triggered my anxiety, self-doubt, and suicidal thoughts.

“As for the instrumental, I wanted something simple yet effective, so I started riffing on my 12-string acoustic guitar, and got the lead guitar to be the main riff throughout the song.

“I wanted something people could sing along to and have an easy time listening to focus on everything simultaneously.

“I wrote the song close to my anniversary of visiting my therapist and hypnotherapist, and making it known that we can all get through tough times.

“There is a way out. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
